Saleaumua Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor

DALLAS ? University of Nebraska outside hitter Jennifer Saleaumua (National City, Calif.) was selected as the Big 12’s Player of the Week for Oct. 18-24.

A two-time All-Big 12 selection, Saleaumua totaled 33 points, 27 kills, 36 digs, five blocks and three service aces in two matches, setting season highs in kills, service aces, hitting percentage and digs in the process. This is her first Big 12 Player-of-the-Week honor, as NU brings a 14-match winning streak into Wednesday’s contest against Colorado.

Saleaumua led the Huskers to a pair of wins, as the Huskers improved to 17-1 overall and 11-0 in Big 12 play. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter had a season-high 19 kills on .450 hitting and 11 digs in helping Nebraska rally from an 0-2 deficit for the first time since 1997to defeat No. 10 Texas on Wednesday. She matched her career highs in kills, as Nebraska posted its first road win over a top-10 team since the 1999 season.

On Saturday, she had eight kills while posting season highs in both digs (24) and service aces (3) in Nebraska’s victory at Baylor. With her 24 digs, Saleaumua now has 988 in her career and needs 12 more to become the seventh Husker to record 1,000 career digs and the first to do it before her senior season. Saleaumua is the second Husker to earn the Big 12’s weekly honor, as Sarah Pavan was chosen on Sept. 27.

Saleaumua and the Huskers are in action Wednesday evening, when they play host to Colorado at the NU Coliseum. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the match will be carried on the Pinnacle Sports Network, including B107.3 FM, and will be shown state-wide on Nebraska Educational Television.
