Tulsa, Okla. ? The Nebraska women's tennis team opened play at the ITA Regional Championships Wednesday with a strong qualifying round, while the main draw starts Oct. 21.

"I don't know if we have ever had four players in the main draw of our regional championships before," Jacobson said. "This is a confidence builder, and we can continue it tomorrow starting in the main draw."

Husker newcomer Ewelina Skaza continued to make an immediate impact by defeating Iowa State's Chrissy Derovin. Pamela Castellejos also found sucess early defeating another conference foe, Luiza Loureira of Kansas.

In the second round of the singles qualifying tournament, the Huskers continued to roll with Skaza beating Christy Greenly of Oklahoma, and Castellejos over Oklahoma State's Zana Masnic.

With two victories, Skaza and Castellejos join Gitte Ostermann, Milena Schulz-Gartner and Imke Reimers in the main draw of the tournament. The Huskers resume play Thursday, Oct. 21.
