Huskers Fair Well in First Round of Riviera/ITA

Lincoln, Neb. ? The Nebraska women’s tennis team started strongly in the pre-qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships Saturday, Oct. 2 in Los Angeles. 

On the singles courts, all three Huskers advanced into the second round.  Two newcomers recorded their first victories, with Imke Reimers defeating Orsoly Sallai of Washington State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, and Ewelina Skaza over Cindy Treber of UNLV, 6-2, 6-2.  Milena Schulz-Gartner gave the Huskers a perfect record in singles competition for the first round.

On the doubles courts, one of the two Nebraska combinations moved on to the second round of the prequalifiers.  Schulz-Gartner and Skaza received a bye and will play Noelle Lee and Chelsy Thompson of Cal Poly.

All three Husker women in singles will see action Sunday, Oct. 3, as well as the doubles team of Schulz-Gartner and Skaza in the second round of the tournament.
