Posch Advances at All-American Championships

Chattanooga, Tenn. -- In his first match of the week, junior Jerry Posch earned a singles victory to lead the Husker men’s tennis team at the ITA All-American Championships Monday at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Posch, who was a perfect 5-0 in singles play in the season-opening Nebraska Invitational Sept. 24-26, moved into the round of 64 in the singles qualifying draw with a straight set victory over Todd Paul of Wake Forest. Posch held on in the first set before dominating Paul down the stretch to win 7-5, 6-0.

Posch continues action on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. against Sean Kelleher of William & Mary with a spot in the Round of 32 on the line. Kelleher was a surprise winner over No. 9-seed Tommy Hanus of Northwestern, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Playing his first match of the weekend, Szatmary, who is ranked No. 115 in the preseason rankings, dropped a tough three-set thriller to Nestor Briceno of Florida, 3-6, 7-6 (9), 6-1, after having two chances to earn the victory in the second set.
