Sioux Falls, S.D. - The Nebraska softball team went a perfect 5-0 over the weekend at the Augustana Tournament, the Huskers' first of three fall tournaments.
NU defeated South Dakota State in the first game on Saturday, 6-3. The Huskers then defeated Augustana 5-4 in eight innings, before closing the day with a 6-1 win over St. Cloud State. Sophomore Jaime Borg, who has returned to pitching after playing outfield last season, picked up the victory over St. Cloud State.
On Sunday, Nebraska opened the day with a 7-0 shutout of Minnesota State-Mankato. Freshman right-hander Jordan Keen picked up the win with a complete-game shutout.
The highlight of the tournament came in the Huskers' final game. Nebraska faced North Dakota State and pulled out a 10-inning, 2-1 victory. Sophomore Ashley DeBuhr, the Huskers' only returning pitcher, struck out 13 in the game. Junior Katie Linke recorded the game-winning hit with a hard-hit single to right field that scored fellow junior Jessica Yoachim. The international tie breaker was used in the game beginning with the eighth inning. Yoachim was placed on second per the international tie breaker rule before she scored the game-winning run.
Nebraska travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., next weekend for the Michigan Tournament. The Huskers will play five games there, including two against Big Ten power Michigan.
