Athens - Former Husker Adam Stern moved up to the No. 3 spot in the lineup, but was unable to lift the Canadian Olympic Baseball team to victory in a 5-2 loss to Cuba at the Olympic Baseball Centre on Saturday morning.
Stern finished 0-for-4 as the Canadians dropped their second straight game after opening the tournament with four straight victories. With the loss, Canada falls from first place to a tie for second place with Australia.
Cuba (5-1) pounded out 10 hits and Norberto Gonzalez (1-0) did not allow a run in six innings of work. Jason Dickson (1-1) took the loss for the Canadians, allowing four earned runs in five innings.
Canada faces a key game with Australia at 3:30 a.m. (CDT) on Sunday. If the Canadians win they would be the third seed for the semifinal round, and if they lose they would be the fourth seed.
