Adam Stern, a native of London, Ontario, spent three seasons at Nebraska from 1999 to 2001. In his first season with the team, he appeared in 38 games, including 12 starts, and posted a .197 batting average in 61 at bats. In Nebraska's record-setting 50-3 win over Chicago State, Stern recorded two doubles, a triple and a three-run home run to go with six RBIs. Stern also earned a honorable mention Academic All-Big 12 selection.
Stern developed as one of the most improved hitters on the team in his sophomore year. He finished third on the team with a .356 batting average, over 150 points higher than his freshman average. Stern added 45 RBIs, scored 54 runs and stole 12 bases on the season.
In his final season with the Huskers, Stern earned an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection by batting .292 in a team-high 267 at bats and stealing 27 bases, which was good for second on the team. He notched 47 RBIs on 78 hits, which included 8 doubles, four triples and five homeruns. Stern also was named a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection.
Stern spent part of four seasons in the Major Leagues with Boston, Baltimore and Milwaukee. A third-round pick by Atlanta in 2001, Stern made his MLB debut with Boston on July 7, 2005. He appeared in 36 games for the Red Sox, hitting .133 in 15 at-bats, picking up his first base hit against the New York Yankees on July 15, before belting his first career homer against the Chicago White Sox on July 22. He appeared in 10 games for the Red Sox in 2006 before being traded to Baltimore. Stern appeared in two games for the Orioles in 2007, but did not record a plate appearance. In addition to his MLB experience, Stern also played in both World Baseball Classics, going 6-for-9 with a double, triple, homer and five RBIs for Team Canada in 2006 and was a member of Canada’s 2004 and 2008 Olympic Baseball teams. He made a return to the majors in 2010 with the Milwaukee Brewers and appeared in six games.
