Sacramento, Calif. - Becky Breisch and Leann Boerema finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the finals of the shot put at the U.S. Olympic Trials, while former Husker Joe Erdkamp was unable to qualify for the finals of the men's discus.
Breisch fouled on her first two attempts before unleashing a toss of 48-6 feet. Boerema's first throw of 48-3 1/4 turned out to be her best of the day.
Breisch, an Edwardsburg, Mich., native earned All-America honors in shot put in 2004 with a third-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She will be a senior next season.
During her four-year career, Boerema recorded a top-five finish in the shot put at all eight of the Big 12 Championships in which she competed, highlighted by a gold medal-peformance in the 2000 Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
In the discus, Erdkamp failed to record a legal throw in his three attempts. A graduate of Papillion-LaVista, Erdkamp was the 1998 Big 12 hammer throw champion. A former All-American, he also finished second in the discus and third in the weight throw at the 1998 Big 12 outdoor and indoor championships, respectively.
Former Husker David Davis will compete in the opening rounds of the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday. The qualifying round is set for 4:35 p.m. (CDT). Tomorrow's action can be seen live on NBC from 4-5 p.m. (CDT)
