College Station, Texas -- Nebraska’s Jenny Green earned gold in the women’s pole vault at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in College Station, Texas, on Sunday, clearing the bar with a winning height of 13-1?.
By winning the event, Green qualifies for the 2004 World Junior Championships, July 13-18, in Grosseto, Italy.
Green was the only competitor to clear 13 feet, winning by eight inches. A Grand Island native, Green took third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships earlier this month. She also earned third place at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships and claimed both indoor and outdoor Big 12 conference titles last season as a freshman.
On the men’s side, Gable Baldwin finished in a tie for fourth in the pole vault competition by clearing 16-0 ?. Baldwin, another Grand Island native, finished third in the event in 2003 with a 17-0 ?.
