The demolition of the Northwest Fieldhouse is now fairly complete. Gate 11, which has been closed for safety purposes, will now reopen on Thursday, June 24, as a staff entrance for those with approved access.
Schulte Fieldhouse
Sampson Construction will focus on removing the South side first. It will take several weeks with a skid steer working inside to knock down the interior walls. Dirt has been piled high on the West side to create a platform for the concrete pincher to be able to reach the higher portion of the exterior walls. Fans and media are encouraged to continue to watch the progress on the three live Construction Cams on Huskers.com.
Project Manager
University Project Manager Brad Muehling was an offensive linemen for the Husker football team in 1982 and 1983. After graduating from Nebraska in 1985, Muehling worked his way up in the University Facilities Management office to Project Manager. He represents the university interests on this project for codes and budget, while the athletic department interest is represented by Boyd Epley and John Ingram for Steve Pederson. Muehling also served as project manager for the West Stadium Skybox addition and Haymarket Park, and is currently overseeing the waterproofing project in the East Stadium.
Speakers
The speakers in North Stadium were being removed on Tuesday. A hole will be cut in the back of the structure and speakers removed using a skip box to lower the speakers to be put on palettes. The speakers will be stored until later this summer when they will be installed in the East Stadium. Experts have determined the East stadium will be the best long term location for the speakers, and the UNL Aesthetic Review Board has approved this move.
Scoreboard
Plans call for the scoreboard in North Stadium to come down on Wednesday, June 23. The scoreboard originally was scheduled to go to a landfill, but current plans call for Alters Scrap to recycle the metal from the scoreboard.
