Lincoln, Neb. ? The Nebraska soccer team notched two exhibition victories, as NU recorded wins over Denver, 2-0 and Southern California, 1-0, in 45 minutes halves against each Saturday morning at the Abbott Sports Complex.
Against the Pioneers, Katie Bunker and Nikki Baker posted goals to lead the Huskers in the shutout. Bunker scored the first goal fourteen minutes into the game on an assist from Ashley Tenn. Baker scored the second goal in the 33rd minute with an assist from Jenna Cooper.
Denver had its best chance to score in the final five minutes of the half, but Amanda Groneman’s wide open attempt hit the cross bar preserving the shutout. The shot by Groneman’s was Denver only shot in the game. The Huskers outshot the Pioneers, 15-1, while recording nine shots on goal.
Against USC, the Huskers got a goal from Abby Penas off an assist from Cooper 18 minutes into the match. Katie Wright had an impressive game, as she recorded four saves, including a diving save on a penalty shot by USC’s Rosa Anna Tantillo in the 21st minute.
"I thought we came out with great intensity," Cooper said. "We had something to prove against USC after the last match."
USC defeated the Cornhuskers, 4-0, in Los Angeles on April 9, in their first meeting of the spring season.
The Huskers return to action on Friday, April 23, when they play host to the Canadian 19-Under teamat 7 p.m. at the Abbott Sports Complex.
