? Senior right-handed pitcher Peaches James tossed her sixth one-hitter of the season Monday night to lead No. 19 Nebraska to a 1-0 win over Notre Dame before 535 fans at Bowlin Stadium. James, who improved to 24-5 on the season, struck out four and faced just one batter over the minimum. James’ 24 victories in 2004 represent her highest single-season win total.
With the victory, the Huskers improved to 30-11 overall and 1-2 against the Fighting Irish in 2004, avenging two early season losses to Notre Dame (31-12). NU also extended its winning streak to 12 straight games. The Huskers conclude their series with Notre Dame Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium.
Sophomore right-hander Heather Booth (16-5) took the loss for Notre Dame, allowing one run on two hits in six innings of work.
Junior second baseman Anne Steffan and sophomore third baseman Jessica Yoachim provided the Huskers’ only hits, as both singled in the bottom of the third.
Nebraska scored its 50th first-inning run of the season to take a 1-0 lead. Booth hit Steffan with a pitch to lead off the inning. After stealing second, Steffan advanced to third when Yoachim grounded out and scored on Booth's wild pitch
After a scoreless second inning, NU left two runners on in the bottom of the third. With one out, Steffan and Yoachim both singled, but Nicole Trimboli and Trisha Tannahill both grounded out to end the scoring threat.
