Huskers Cruise By Saint Louis, 7-0

Lincoln -- The Nebraska women’s tennis team picked up its second victory of the weekend with a 7-0 win over St. Louis Sunday morning at Woods Tennis Center. The win was the Huskers’ most dominant of the season, as they won every singles match in straight sets.

Nebraska, which also defeated Iowa State, 7-0, on Friday, has won three of its last four matches to improve to 11-5 in 2004. With seven regular-season contests remaining, the Huskers need just one more victory to match their 2003 win total.

"I thought that we played with a lot of emotion today," NU Coach Scott Jacobson said. "From here on out, the word we’re going to use is urgency. We want to continue to compete with a sense of urgency throughout the month of April."

The teams played just two doubles and five singles matches, as Saint Louis was forced to default because of injury at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. NU claimed easy wins in all of the singles contests, including at the No. 4 and No. 5 sports, where senior Anna Oehme and junior Katie Garcia won their matches, 6-0, 6-0.

In the top half of the lineup, junior Gitte Ostermann defeated Amanda Helberg 6-0, 6-1; sophomore Milena Schulz-Gartner beat Ana Renda, 6-2, 6-0, and senior Leslie Harvey defeated Melissa Cutler, 6-1, 6-0.

The Huskers return to action Saturday, April 3, when they travel to Missouri for a noon match.
