Donning full pads for the first time this spring, the Huskers worked out for two hours and 15 minutes in Memorial Stadium on Friday. Just the third practice this spring, Head Coach Bill Callahan said it was good to don the pads and get physical.
“It was our first day in pads today. We knocked the rust off. We have a long way to go, but we are excited about the future.”
While the team continued to work on fundamentals and techniques, the new systems continue to be installed. Offensive Coordinator Jay Norvell said, “It’s a little bit like force feeding them an elephant,” as the squad learns new terminology as well as new systems and new methods of practice.
“It’s not unlike learning a foreign language,” Norvell said, “But so far they are adjusting well. Their heads are spinning right now, but we are pleased so far with their progress.”
The team will hold its fourth straight spring practice on Saturday, before taking Sunday off.
