Huskes Outduel Cyclones in Florida

Parrish, Fla.  -- The Nebraska women's golf team fired a one-round score of 307 to defeat Iowa State by 12 strokes on Friday in a tuneup dual for the Huskers' season-opening tournament.

The Huskers, who play their first tournament of the season Monday and Tuesday at the Central District Invitational at the River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla., received strong scores in their first competition of the spring against the Cyclones.

"I was pretty pleased for the first time out," Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. "We played pretty well aside from a few shots that cost us some numbers that we should not have had, but overall the scores were solid.  It was really nice just to get out on the course and compete."

Senior captain Stephanie Schaefer continued her strong play from the fall by firing a 73, while junior Stephanie Ruiz added a solid round with a 76.  Junior Merynn Ito managed a 77, while sophomore Jackie Beste produced an 81, in the count-four format. Sophomore Sara Sackett shot an 85 and true freshman Christine McArdle added an 86.
