Huskers Defeat Falcons, 7-0

Lincoln -- The 70th ranked Nebraska women’s tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 7-0 defeat of Air Force Thursday night at the Woods Tennis Center Complex. The Huskers won all six singles matches with only one going to the third set.

In doubles action, NU won two of three matches to earn the doubles point. At the No. 2 spot, Anne Oehme and Milena Schulz-Gartner improved to 5-1 on the season with a 9-7 come-from-behind victory over Kate Bushey and Karissa Walker. The duo trailed 7-5 before rallying off four straight points to win the match. At the No. 3 spot, Katie Garcia and Gitte Ostermann defeated Kellie Crail and Katie Tomkie, 8-3, while Rose Ketmayura and Leslie Harvey dropped their match to Gina Black and Laura Nigro, 9-7.

At No. 1 singles, Ostermann, competing in her first singles match of the spring season, defeated Nigro 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). NU’s Schulz-Gartner defeated Bushey at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3). At No. 3 singles, Harvey pushed her singles winning streak to six matches by defeating Black 7-5, 5-7, 10-3.

Oehme maintained her winning streak, earning her sixth straight win in singles play with her 6-3, 6-4 win over Walker at No. 4 singles. At No. 5, Castrillejos also won her sixth straight match with a straight-set victory over Tomkie, 6-4, 6-0. Garcia stretched her personal winning streak to four straight matches with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Crail at the No. 6 singles.

The Huskers wrap up a season-opening seven-match homestand with their match against Big 12 rival Texas at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, at the Woods Tennis Center Complex.
