Dallas, Texas - Sophomore Jacob Klein earned the Big 12 Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 18-25, the league announced Tuesday.
The Valley Center, Kan., native helped third-ranked Nebraska overcome a seven-point deficit in its conference opener against fourth-ranked Missouri with his victory at 165 pounds. Klein defeated All-American and 2003 Big 12 Champion Tyron Woodley, 3-2 to lead NU to a 23-13 victory in front of 1,372 fans last Saturday at the NU Coliseum.
The victory over the ninth-ranked Woodley was Klein’s first victory over a ranked opponent this season.
Klein, a two-time recipient of this honor, is the second Husker to receive conference honor this year as junior Travis Pascoe won Big 12 Wrestler of the Month for his action during the month of December.
The Huskers return to action on Friday, Jan. 30 as the travel to Tempe, Ariz. to 13th-ranked Arizona State at 8 p.m. Earlier this year NU defeated the Sun Devils, 37-(-1) en route to the Virginia Duals title on Jan. 11.
