Huskers Place 26 on Academic All-Big 12 Team

Dallas -- The Big 12 Conference released the 2003 Academic All-Big 12 Football Team Tuesday afternoon. Among the 127 honorees, the Huskers had 20 first-team honorees and six more add to the second team. Nebraska has now had 370 first-team conference honorees since the award began in 1954. Coach Solich has seen 123 first-team awards distributed to his players since 1998.

Nebraska junior Chad Sievers was nominated with a perfect 4.00 grade point average for the second year in a row. The Valley, Neb., native is a Business Administration major at NU. Seniors Judd Davies, Pat Ricketts, Trevor Johnson and Kyle Larson are four-time honorees on their respective teams.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the football academic all-league squad consisted of 76 first-team members combined with 51 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
