Huskers Tied for Fifth After Two Rounds of 49er Collegiate Classic

Charlotte, NC ? The Nebraska men's golf team finished with a team total of two-under par 574 (290-284) on Monday during the first day of competition at the 49er Collegiate Classic in Charlotte, N.C.  This was good enough to place them in a tie with Davidson for fifth in the field of twelve.  <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Xavier leads the team race after firing an 18-under par 558 (275-283) on the opening day.  Indiana (282-281) and Furman (292-271) are tied for second place at 563, followed by host Charlotte (287-282) in fourth place at 569, and Nebraska and Davidson (284-290) at 574.  Richmond, East Carolina, Campbell, James Madison, Marquette, and William & Mary round out the field.

 

Individually, Nebraska was lead by senior J.J Sullivan (71-71) and sophomore Judd Cornell (72-70) after each shot a two-under par 142 through 36 holes.  This was good enough to earn the pair a tie for 15th.  Senior Chris Hartwig (72-71) is tied for 20th at 143, and freshman Brady Schnell followed an opening round 75 with a par 72 to place himself in a tie for 33rd at 147.  Redshirt freshman Drew Reynolds rounded out the NU lineup at 156 (80-76) and is tied for 55th.

 

Indiana's Jeff Overton leads the individual race with a 13-under par 131 through two rounds.  Overton fired a school record 64 in the opening round, and followed it up with a 67 in round two to give himself a 4-stroke lead over Furman's Matt Davidson (69-66).

 

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning at 7,028-yard Skybrook Golf Club.
