Salt Lake City, Utah -- Nebraska junior Gitte Osterman picked up victories in singles and doubles play to lead the Husker women’s tennis team Thursday at the ITA Central Region Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ostermann, who was seeded fourth of 64 competitors, defeated New Mexico’s Tjasa Suvak, 6-3, 6-3, in the opening round of the main draw.
Ostermann (9-1) later teamed with junior Katie Garcia to beat Nicole Fintell and Aline Opala of New Mexico State, 8-1, and advance to the second round of the doubles main draw.
The only other Huskers competing Thursday in the singles main draw were senior Leslie Harvey, who fell in a tough match to Kansas’ Emily Haylock, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, and sophomore Milena Schulz-Gartner, who lost to Denver’s Yanick Dullens, 6-4, 6-3.
The Huskers will continue competition at the ITA Regionals throughout the weekend. Finals for each bracket will take place Sunday.
