Huskers Tie for Sixth at adidas Fall Classic

Palm Harbor, Fla. - The Nebraska women’s golf team settled for a final-round 307 to finish in a tie for sixth place at the 14-team adidas Fall Classic in Palm Harbor, Fla., on Tuesday.

The Huskers’ third round on the 5,844-yard, par 72 layout at the Lansbrook Golf Club concluded NU’s 54 holes at the tournament at 911 for their third-lowest total this fall.

Nebraska finished 23 strokes behind the team champions from Baylor (298-292-298-888), which finished just one stroke ahead of runner-up Missouri (294-303-292-889).

True freshman Christine McArdle fired a career-low round for the third consecutive day, shooting an even-par 72 on Tuesday. McArdle finished the tournament in a tie for fifth place, 11 strokes behind individual champion Josefin Svenningsson from Baylor, who finished at six under par (69-71-70-210). It was McArdle’s first top-five finish of her young career.

Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said McArdle’s final round wrapped up a tremendous tournament for the freshman from Eden Prairie, Minn.

"Chrissie had a great round, shooting a 72 today," Krapfl said. "You just can’t say enough about it. She had birdies on three of the last six holes, and she really finished her round aggressively today. She just kept playing better and better as the tournament wore on, and I think that is a great sign for the spring season."

Senior captain Stephanie Schaefer managed a tie for 23rd (77-75-77-229) to finish outside of the top 20 for the first time in six fall tournaments. Junior Merynn Ito finished 32nd (75-78-80-233), while junior Stephanie Ruiz tied for 33rd (81-75-78-234). Sophomore Jackie Beste settled for a tie for 38th (75-79-81-235), while junior Sara Sackett rounded out the Husker contigent in a tie for 43rd (78-78-80-236) among the 86 individuals in the tournament.

Nebraska completed its fall season with its fifth top-six finish in six tournaments, including a pair of tournament titles for one of the best falls in school history. The Huskers will open their spring season at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., Feb. 23-24.
