Huskers Slip to Fourth at adidas Fall Classic

Palm Harbor, Fla. - The Nebraska women’s golf team shot another solid 302, but still slipped into a tie for fourth place with the University of Denver after two rounds at the adidas Fall Classic in Palm Harbor, Fla., on Monday.

The Huskers’ round on Monday matched the 302 they shot on Sunday on the 5,844-yard, par 72 layout at the Lansbrook Golf Club to finish the tournament’s second day at 604. Nebraska’s total puts them 14 shots behind Baylor, which shot 292 in the second round to finish at 590. Two other Big 12 Conference teams also sit in front of Nebraska, as Kansas State shot a tournament-low 291 on Monday to finish the day at 596, while Missouri is just one shot behind the Wildcats at 597.

True freshman Christine McArdle fired a career-low 74 on Monday to end the second round in a tie for ninth place (75-74-149), nine strokes behind individual leader Josefin Svenningsson from Baylor (69-71-140).

Nebraska senior captain Stephanie Schaefer also produced a solid second round, by firing a 75 to climb into a tie for 19th place (77-75-152). The Columbus, Neb., native will be shooting for her sixth consecutive top-20 finish in tomorrow’s final round.

Junior Stephanie Ruiz added a 75 of her own in the second round to rebound from an opening-round 81. Juniors Merynn Ito and Sara Sackett each shot 78 on Monday, while sophomore Jackie Beste rounded out the Husker scores with a 79. Ito enters Tuesday’s final round in a tie for 24th place, while Beste sits in a tie for 30th and Ruiz and Sackett are tied for 33rd among the 86 individuals in the tournament.

Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said the Huskers produced another solid round on Monday, but were unable to finish strong to climb the leaderboard.

"We got off to a fast start with three birdies on the first hole," Krapfl said. "We kind of leveled out in the middle of the round, and then we just kind of tapered off down the stretch. We are playing solid, but we just need some low scores to help our 75s and 76s."

The tournament’s final round is scheduled to tee off at 6:30 a.m. central time, which will conclude Nebraska’s fall golf season.
