Huskers Complete Play at Seminole Fall Classic

Tallahassee, Fla. -- The Nebraska men's tennis team completed its first weekend of fall action Sunday, winning one singles match against Middle Tennessee State. The match was played in a hidden dual format, with individual results counting but no team scores being kept.

Junior Jose Rivera picked up his first win of the fall slate, defeating MTSU's Trevor Short in a three-set thriller. Rivera, who played mainly doubles last year for the Huskers, edged Short for the first set in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (12-10). In the second frame, Short came back to earn a 6-4 victory and force a decisive third set, which Rivera dominated, 1-0 (10-6), to take the match. It was NU's second singles victory of the weekend, following freshman Justin Junck's win in his first collegiate match on Friday against Florida A&M.

In other action Sunday, Rivera and Joerg Barthel, playing at the No. 1 doubles slot, nearly pulled out NU's first doubles victory of the fall before coming up short against Anant Sitaram and Short, 9-8 (11-9). MTSU swept the other two doubles matches, and won five singles matches in straight sets.

Nebraska returns to action for their second outing of the fall season Oct. 3-5, when NU plays at the Louisville Men's Invitational in Louisville, Ky. The Huskers will have just a partial squad at the event, as select members of the team will play at the ITA Pre-Qualifier in Tulsa, Okla., on Oct. 4-6.
