Rogers, Ark. - The Nebraska women's golf team shot a second-round 303 to remain in fourth place after the first two rounds at the nine-team Embassy Suites/Tyson Invitational in Rogers, Ark., on Monday.
The Huskers' second-round total was an eight-stroke improvement as a team from Sunday's opening-round 311, and NU gained one shot on the leaders from Arkansas. Nebraska is 19 strokes out of first, with the tournament's final round scheduled for Tuesday morning.
The Lady Razorbacks shot a 304 on Monday to go along with their opening-round 291 to lead the field at 595. But Mississippi is hot on the tails of the Lady Razorbacks after firing a tournament-low 290 in the second round, gaining 14 strokes on Arkansas. Mississippi moved within three strokes of the lead at 598. Texas A&M sits in third place with a two-round score of 611 after firing a 301 on Monday.
Oral Roberts (622), Southern Miss (628), Iowa State (631), Augusta State (643) and Wichita State (675), round out the field after the second round.
Nebraska coach Robin Krapfl said the Huskers played well and showed improvement on Monday.
"The whole team played great with the exception of two holes, so I think as a team we looked pretty good today. I think we showed the kind of golf we're capable of playing."
Husker true freshman Christine McArdle remains in a tie for 10th after firing a pair of 76s in the first two rounds to bring her total to 152. Jackie Beste also remained in 19th place (154) by adding a 76 of her own on Monday. Merynn Ito climbed four spots into a tie for 21st place (156) by shooting a 77 in round two, while Stephanie Schaefer added an 80 to stand in a tie for 28th (158).
Nebraska's lowest round of the day game from redshirt freshman Andrea Dunagan, who shot a sizzling 3-over-par 74 to shave 16 strokes off her opening-round performance on the 6,102-yard, par-71 Pinnacle Country Club course. Dunagan climbed 17 spots individually from 59th to 42nd place (164).
"Andrea just played fantastic today," Krapfl said. "She had one bad hole with a triple bogey, but other than that she played some great golf."
Three Huskers competed as individuals on Monday, including junior Sara Sackett, who matched her first-round 79 to move into a tie for 28th (158). Stephanie Ruiz cut seven strokes off her opening-round 86 with a 79 of her own on Monday to move into a tie for 44th (165), while Beth Anne Cherry added an 84 to slip to 47th place (166) through two rounds.
