Huskers Place 22 Players on Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll

Lincoln -- The Nebraska baseball program produced 22 student-athletes with 3.0 or higher grade-point averages during the spring semester on the 2003 Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll announced Monday.

The Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the semester. Nebraska's 292 student-athletes honored this spring surpassed the 288 Huskers honored for their fall semester academic accomplishments. Of Nebraska's 292 honorees, 36 produced perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the spring semester, including baseball players Daniel Bruce (Omaha, Neb.) and Aaron Marsden (Grand Forks, N.D.).

The Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll caps one of the most successful academic years for the Husker baseball program, as NU led the conference with six first-team Academic All-Big 12 honorees, while Marsden and Jeff Leise (Omaha, Neb.) both earned first-team Verizon Academic All-America honors. Leise, a three-time academic All-American, was chosen as the Verizon Academic All-American of the Year for the second straight season.
