Huskers Return to Action at Boilermaker Invitational

Lincoln - Following a two-week layoff, the 55th-ranked Nebraska women's golf team returns to action this weekend at the 2003 Lady Boilermaker Invitational hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. The tournament will begin on Saturday with 36 holes at the Kampen Course on the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, with the final 18 holes slated for Sunday.

The Huskers are shooting for their fifth straight top-10 finish, after taking home fourth at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite in Kanoehe, Hawaii, on March 19. Sophomore Merynn Ito, who was playing on her home course, was NU's top finisher, tying for third overall after firing a final-round 74 to place five strokes behind USC's Mikela Parmlid, who won the individual title.

The Lady Boilermaker will feature many top teams from across the country, including 10th-ranked Tennessee, and host Purdue, ranked 22nd nationally. Other teams competing include (ranking in parenthesis); Kent State (34), Michigan State (35), N.C. State (36), Penn State (40), Illinois (44), Northwestern (53), Michigan (56), Iowa State (59), Wisconsin (61) and Iowa (89).

The NU lineup for this weekend will be senior Sarah Sasse, junior Stephanie Schaefer, sophomores Merynn Ito and Stephanie Ruiz and freshman Jackie Beste. It is NU's final tune-up before traveling to Colombia, Mo., for the Big 12 Championships, April 21-23.
