El Paso, Texas - The University of Nebraska rifle team defeated the Air Force Academy, 3,843-3,782, in dual action Friday in El Paso, Texas.
The Huskers were led by senior Amanda Trujillo and junior Melissa Downsbrough as the duo each fired a 390 in the air rifle to tie for first. Trujillo also finished second in the smallbore competition with a score of 581, while Downsbrough shot a 569 to place sixth in the event.
Junior Karen Aspden tied Downsbrough for sixth in the smallbore (569) and placed second to Trujillo in the air rifle with a score of 387.
Also scoring for the Huskers were sophomores Laura Johnson and Alicia Sawyer. Johnson only competed in the air rifle, placing ninth (558) while Sawyer only shot the smallbore, scoring a 575 to place fourth.
