Husker Shooters Take Third in Texas

El Paso, Texas-The Nebraska rifle team fell Saturday to Texas-El Paso and Alaska-Fairbanks in a triangular. The Huskers fired a team score of 6,098 to place behind UAF (6,290) and host UTEP (6,131). Nebraska finished with team scores of 4,572 in the smallbore and 1,526 in the air rifle.

 

The Huskers were led by senior Amanda Trujillo who fired a 390 in the air rifle to tie for fourth to go along with a seventh-place finish in the smallbore (1,163).

 

Junior Melissa Downsbrough continued to shoot well, as she placed fifth in the smallbore (1,172) and sixth in the air rifle (388). Sophomore Alicia Sawyer shot a 1,160 to place eighth in the smallbore while fellow sophomore Laura Johnson finished 12th (1,077) in the smallbore and 10th (377) in the air rifle. Junior Karen Aspden also scored for NU in the air rifle, finishing 11th (371).

 

Competiting as an individual, freshman Kiki Chosid fired a 1,084 in the smallbore and a 359 in the air rifle. Sawyer shot unattached in the air rifle and finished with a score of 379, while Aspden competed unattached in the smallbore and shot a 1,102.

 

The Huskers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, when they travel to Murray, Ky., for the Roger Winthrow Invitational.
