Nebraska senior golfer Seth Porter finished two rounds of stroke play qualifying at the United States Amateur Championship with a 142 total and is one of 64 players to advance to the match play portion of the competition being held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Porter opened the championship with a 68 on Monday on the North Course at Oakland Hills and posted a 74 in Tuesday's round on the South Course, leaving him at two-under-par for 36 holes. Porter will face Taichiro Kiyota of Japan in Wednesday morning's first round, with the match scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. CDT. Second and third round matches in the championship will be contested on Thursday and all matches will be played on the South Course, site of several USGA Championships, including the 1996 U.S. Open.
Porter will be a senior on Coach Bill Spangler's Husker golf team this year. A native of Hastings, Neb., Porter has seven top-10 finishes in his collegiate career and was a member of the 1999 Nebraska team that qualified for the NCAA Championships. Porter redshirted in the 2001-2002 season.
