Husker Golfers Finish Seventh at Big 12 Championship

Manhattan, Kan. -- The Nebraska women’s golf team took seventh place at the Big 12 Championship Sunday at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan., after tallying a final-round score of 316 for a three-round total of 952.

Oklahoma State held on for the team title with a 909, three shots better than second-place Oklahoma. Despite a final-round 79, OSU’s Emma Zackrisson topped the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 223.

Leading the Huskers was senior Amanda Sutcliffe, who finished in a tie for 13th after carding rounds of 76, 77 and 77 en route to a three-round total of 230. Also notching a top-20 finish was freshman Stephanie Ruiz, who finished in a tie for 18th with a final-round 4-over-par 76.

Senior Catha Fogelberg rebounded from an opening-round 83 on Friday to finish in the top-30 by putting together rounds of 75 and 79 on the weekend for a tie for 27th. Rounding out NU’s scoring was freshmen Merynn Ito and Beth Anne Cherry, who posted tournament scores of 251 and 253, respectively. Ito finished tied for 50th, while Cherry ended up in 52nd place.

Nebraska now awaits a bid to an NCAA Regional Championship, May 9-11, at a site yet to be determined.
