Huskers Win Events at Woodman Classic and UTEP Invite

Several Huskers won events at the K.T. Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan., and the UTEP Invitational in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday, April 13.

Nebraska sophomore Eric Eshbach won the pole vault at the UTEP Invite with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 17-2 3/4. Eshbach, from Orange, Texas, was just short of his season-best mark of 17-10 1/2, recorded at the Texas Relays on April 6.

Also winning an event for the Huskers at the UTEP Invitational was junior Jennifer Cowher, who placed first in the discus with a toss of 149-5, and senior Derek Zachary, who finished first in the 110-meter hurdles (14.70).

In the javelin, NU sophomore Artur Wszelaki placed second with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 233-8.

At the K.T. Woodman Classic, sophomore Travis Baker won the high jump's university division (6-8 3/4), junior Lucas Bauman won the 800 meters (1:52.72), freshman John Kelly placed first in the 400 meters (48.08), junior Vesna Kostic finished first in the long jump (19-11), junior Krisztina Kovesi won the triple jump (41-11 1/2) and redshirt Eric Rasmussen placed first in the 5,000 meters (15:00.42).
