Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska men's tennis team defeated their third straight opponent Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over the Drake Bulldogs.
Lance Mills and Jose Rivera defeated Kirk Schuler and Matthew McClure at the No. 2 doubles position, 8-2, while Fungai Tongoona and Jose Hernan defeated Felipe Montenegro and Jack Frankowicz, 8-4, at the No. 3 position. Jacek Wolicki and Joel Reckewey lost their match against Aaron Endress-Fox and Bryan Endress-Fox at the No. 1 spot, 3-8.
In singles action, Mills upset Frankowicz at the No. 1 spot, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Tongoona and Rivera both won in straight sets. Tongoona defeated Montenegro, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 4 spot, while Rivera defeated Schuler, 6-4, 7-6, at the No. 5 position. Reckewey overpowered McClure at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. Bryan Endress-Fox upset Hernan at the No. 2 spot, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Wolicki, who had been out of singles play with a back injury, lost to Aaron Endress-Fox, 3-6, 6-1, 4-6, at the No. 3 position.
With the three wins this weekend, the Huskers improve to 4-4 on the season and 0-1 in Big 12 play. Nebraska returns to action on Friday, March 8, at 1 p.m. in a make-up game against Creighton at the Woods Tennis Center.
