Nebraska Overpowers Northern Iowa

Lincoln, Neb. -- The Husker men's tennis team took another 5-2 victory, this time against the Northern Iowa Panthers. The Huskers improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Panthers drop to 3-8.

In doubles action, Lance Mills and Jose Rivera defeated Khambula Msiska and Zane Krog, 8-5, in the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 position, the duo of Jose Hernan and Fungai Tongoona overwhelmed Albert Asiedu-Ofei and Ryan Moberg, 8-2. Jacek Wolicki and Joel Reckewey lost at the No. 1 spot, 9-7, to Harry Walsh and Masimba Muskwe.

Nebraska pulled out four singles victories, including Jeff Nabity, who defeated Ryan Moberg, 6-7, 6-0, 6-1, and claimed the first win of the season at the No. 6 spot for the Huskers. Mills defeated Walsh at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, while Hernan continued his successful freshman campaign with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Muskwe. Hernan is now 6-1 for the dual season. Rivera captured the No. 5 spot by defeating Asiedu-Ofei, 6-2, 6-2. Tongoona and Reckewey both lost their matches at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Tongoona fell to Msiska, 4-6, 4-6, while Reckewey lost to Krog, 6-7, 2-6.

The Huskers take on the Drake Bulldogs today at 1 p.m. at Woods Tennis Center.
