Athens, GA -- The Nebraska women's golf team shot a final-round 312 Sunday to fall back one spot into a tie for 10th at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Stephanie Ruiz and Catha Fogelberg both shot 76 to lead the Huskers on the final day of competition. NU's 932 total was 53 strokes back of Florida which edged Auburn by one stroke for the tournament title.
The Huskers recorded
four holes of double-bogey or worse, but added five birdies to finish
11 strokes off Saturday's mark. Ruiz was five-over par on holes one through
five, but played the other 13 at one-under par. She finished in a tie
for 25th with a 229 total. Fogelberg finished strong after shooting an
81 in the opening round to finish tied for 31st with a 231. Amanda Sutcliffe
slipped on Sunday with a final-round 83 after opening with a 77 and 76.
Sutcliffe finished in a tie for 53rd with a 236. Merynn Ito was just two
strokes back of Sutcliffe with a 238 total, good for a tie for 60th. Amanda
Krane finished well back of the pack in a tie for 84th.
Jeanne Cho of Florida took the individual title with a final-round 73 for a one-stroke win over Anna Gertsson and Angela Jerman.
Nebraska will be back in action on March 28-30 in Boerne, Texas for the Baylor/Tapatio Springs Shootout.
