Huskers Down Billikens, Take On Panthers

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's tennis team defeated the St. Louis Billikens Friday night, 5-2, capturing their first home win of the dual season.

The Huskers started off by taking the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Lance Mills and Jose Rivera defeated Tom de Larzac and Thomas Kwong, 8-4, while Jose Hernan and Fungai Tongoona came from a 7-4 deficit to win 9-7, defeating Sanjeev Paramanathan and Michael Hoosien. The No. 1 doubles team of Jacek Wolicki and Joel Reckewey fell to Ikaika Jobe and Lance Vodicka, 3-8.

Nebraska also took four of the singles matches. Mills defeated Jobe at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-4, while Hernan, playing at the No. 2 position, routed Vodicka, 6-2, 6-2. Reckewey and Rivera also won in straight sets at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively. Reckewey defeated Kwong, 6-3, 6-4, and Rivera overpowered Paramanathan, 6-4, 6-1. Tongoona fell at the No. 3 spot to de Larzac, 3-6, 2-6 and Jeff Nabity lost to Taylor Curran at the No. 6 position, 4-6, 1-6.

The Huskers will face the Northern Iowa Panthers today at 7:30 p.m. at Woods Tennis Center.
