Garcia, Harvey lead Huskers, Improve to 8-1

Lincoln -- The 53rd-ranked women's tennis team defeated instate-rival Creighton, 6-1 to improve 8-1 on the season. Freshman Katie Garcia and sophomore Rebecca Harvey led the Huskers winning one match apiece

Lincoln native Garcia teamed up with Stacey Tomkiewicz to win her first doubles match of her career over Pam Gerik and Shannon Whelan, 8-1 at the No. 3 doubles. Harvey, since injuring her shoulder in the fall season, won at the No. 6 singles over Kelly Kielbowicz, 6-0, 6-0.

"I played solid today. I tired to stay focus and take one point at a time." Harvey said. It just felt really good to be back on the court again."

In No. 1 singles, Leslie Harvey lost to Megan Kowal, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3. No. 1 2 singles Amy Frisch, defeated Divya Bala, 6-3, 6-3. No. 3 singles Anne Oehme defeated Deidre Senders in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. No. 4 singles, Rose Ketmayura won her match over Pam Gerik, 6-3, 6-2. No. 5 singles Tomkiewicz defeated Kim Cavan, 6-0, 6-0.

No. 1 doubles, L. Harvey and Ketmayura defeated Kowal and Bala, 8-5. No. 2 doubles Frisch and Oehme defeated Cavan and Senders, 8-2.

The Huskers return to action March 2, 2002 when the travel to Waco, Texas to take on No. 21 Baylor at 10 a.m.
