Frisch Leads Huskers in Victory over Bears

Lincoln -- The 54th -ranked women's tennis team defeated 67th ranked Southwest Missouri State 6-1 behind a pair of wins from senior Amy Frisch. The Huskers improved to 5-1 on the season while Southwest Missouri State drops to 1-4.

In No. 4 singles, Frisch defeated Marta Rubina, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 double, trailing 7-6, Frisch and Katarina Balan won the next three sets to earn the doubles point and the win, 9-7.

"It was good to win today after the loss yesterday." Frisch said. "We fought back and gave our team some momentum for the single matches."

No. 2 singles, Balan defeated Oyuki Cruz, 7-6, (9-7), 6-3. No. 3 singles, Leslie Harvey defeated Cassandra Godgrey, 6-0, 6-0. No. 1 singles Gitte Osterman defeated Ia Zozrashvili, 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 3-0 on the season. No. 5 Anne Oehme defeated Laura Miller, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. No. 6 singles Rose Ketmayura lost to Maria Amato in stright sets, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, No. 1 Harvey and Ketmayura lost to Zozrashvili and Godgrey, 8-4. No. 3 Osterman and Oehme defeated Rubina and Amoto, 8-4.

"By far this was one of the best team matches we have played all season." Jacobson said.

Nebraska returns to action next Saturday, February 23, when they host Colorado State at Woods Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
