Huskers Win Big 12 Opener

Columbia, Mo. -- The Nebraska women's tennis team won a hard fought match against Missouri on Saturday, defeating the Tigers, 4-3. The Huskers improves to 1-0 in the Big 12 and 3-0 overall, while the Tigers dropped to 2-1 and 0-1 in the conference.

The match was not decided until the final singles match in which Rose Ketmayura defeated Caitlin Thompson of Missouri, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5. Freshman Gitte Osterman, won her first career match at the No. 1 singles spot defeating Urska Junic, 7-5, 6-3. Leslie Harvey defeated Lucie Ruskova at the No. 4 singles, 6-4, 7-6.

Nebraska won the double point by winning two of the three doubles matches led by senior's Amy Frisch and Katerina Balan, who defeated Mary Barry and Thompson at the No. 2 double, 8-2 and Osterman and Anna Oehme defeated Kristin Olshanskaya and Ruskova at the No. 3 doubles, 8-4.

Frisch was defeated at the No. 3 singles by Barry, 6-1, 6-4. Balan was also defeated at the No. 2 singles by Kayka Sevcikova, 6-4, 6-2. Juric and Sevcikova defeated Harvey and Ketmayura at the No. 1 double, 8-5.
Nebraska will next be in action, February 9, when the take on 10th ranked Texas Longhorns at the Woods Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
