Lincoln, Neb. -- The University of Nebraska women's bowling team won their first tournament of the spring season in Dayton, Ohio, Jan. 19-20. The Huskers, who scheduled the tournament trip after an earlier tournament was cancelled due to the events of Sept. 11, finished the Eagle Classic with a 9,706 pinfall and a 951.569 average.
Sophomore Suzanne Medwell finished the tournament in first place with a 200 average and a pinfall of 1,808. Medwell was the only bowler to finish with a 200 average. She was also the only Husker to place in the top five.
Other Husker averages included junior Kari Schwager (192.000), senior Christine Couvillon (185.770), sophomore Shannon Pluhowsky (185.440) and senior Diandra Hyman (182.660).
The Huskers head to South Bend, Ind., for the Blue & Gold Classic, Jan. 26-27. Nebraska took the title last year with a pinfall of 9,229.
