Huskers Rebound at Heather Farr/CU Invitational

Broomfield, Colo. -- Following the highest stroke total in a three-round tournament since the 1996-97 season last week at the Big 12 Invite, the Nebraska women's golf bounced back Monday at the Heather Farr/CU Memorial Invitational with an opening round score of 301 at the Omni Interlocken Golf Club, putting the Huskers in a tie for second, three shots off the lead held by Colorado State.

NU was led by individual leader Amanda Sutcliffe, who fired five birdies on the day en route to a career-low 3-under-par 69. The senior from Gunnedah, New South Wales, Australia, holds a two-shot lead heading into Tuesday's final round.

Freshmen Stephanie Ruiz and Merynn Ito posted strong showings with rounds of 76 and 77, respectively. Ruiz, a native of Edmond, Okla., is tied for 12th, while Ito, who hails from Aeia, Hawaii, is tied for 18th.

Rounding out NU's scoring were a pair of 79s from senior Catha Fogelberg and freshman Beth Anne Cherry. The duo is in a tie for 29th.

"We played really well," Head Coach Robin Krapfl said. "We finally made some birdies and made some putts, which was the difference. We still made some mistakes that we shouldn't have, but things are definitely looking up."

The final 18 holes will begin tomorrow with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
