Huskers Will Travel to Wichita to Compete in Regional Tournament

Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska Cornhuskers men's tennis team will compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Mid-American Tournament this weekend, Oct. 18-22, in Wichita, Kan.

The Mid-American Tournament, which is Nebraska's biggest regional tournament, begins on Thursday morning with a pre-qualifying tournament. Players participating in the pre-qualifying tournament for the Huskers include senior Fungai Tongoona, and sophomores Jose Rivera and Ryan Jay.

In the main draw of the singles competition, senior Lance Mills, junior Jacek Wolicki, and freshmen Jose Hernan and Joel Reckewey will compete for the Huskers. The doubles teams of Mills/Wolicki and Tongoona/Hernan will participate in the main draw of the doubles competition.

Draw sheets will not be made available for the pre-qualifying matches until 9:30 Thursday morning. Pre-qualifying matches will begin at 10 a.m.

Junior Nabity leaves team
Men's tennis Head Coach Kerry McDermott confirmed today that junior transfer Jeff Nabity, a native of Grand Island, Neb., left the team Tuesday morning. Coach McDermott said Nabity left the squad because he no longer wanted to compete at the collegiate level.
