Lincoln -- Forty-three members of the Nebraska track and field team earned academic All-Big 12 honors, the conference announced Wednesday. Senior high jumper Carrie Braness earned the honor for the fifth time in her career, while senior distance runner Amie Jorgensen, senior jumper Angie Prebyl, senior hurdler Rene Pretorius, senior thrower Melissa Price and senior thrower Erin Wibbels earned the honor for the fourth time.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of her/his team's scheduled contests. A total of 196 track athletes were named to this year's first team (3.2 GPA or better), while 69 athletes made the conference's second team. 2001 Women's Track & Field Academic All-Big 12 honorees (first team):
