Manhattan, Kan. -- The No. 47 Nebraska women's tennis team got a big win against No. 48 Kansas, winning 4-3 in Manhattan, Kan., Tuesday.
The Huskers took the lead after picking up wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spot. Juniors Katarina Balan and Amy Frisch won a hard fought match against Courtney Steinbock and Kristen Steinbock, 9-8 (13-11), while sophomore Stacey Tomkiewicz and freshman Elissa Kinard defeated Lisa Mallaiah and Christi Wagenaar, 8-2.
In singles play, Balan took over the No. 1 spot and defeated KU's No. 94 ranked Monica Sekulov, 6-2, 6-4. Balan's victory not only improved her record to 16-5, she defeated Sekulov who was Big 12 player of the week for March 19-25.
Senior Ndali Ijomah and freshman Rebecca Harvey also picked up wins at the No. 2 and No. 6 spot, while freshman Rose Ketmayura picked up her first loss of the season to Emily Haylock, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Ketmayura owns a 13-1 record in her first season at Nebraska.
NU improves its record to 18-3 overall and 5-3 in the Big 12. The Huskers will finish out their season at home, when the Huskers play host to No. 17 Baylor on Saturday and No. 16 Oklahoma State on Sunday at Cather-Pound Courts.
