Ames, Iowa -- The Nebraska women's tennis team picked up their 16th win overall and improved to 4-3 in the conference as it defeated Iowa State, 6-1 in Ames, Iowa, Friday.
As Nebraska has done for most of its duals in 2001, the Huskers picked up the doubles point to get them in front early. NU was able to win two-out-of-three in doubles with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Juniors Katarina Balan and Amy Frisch teamed up for the fourth time this year and defeated Edna Vazquez and Courtney Leese, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot, while sophomore Stacey Tomkiewicz and freshman Elissa Kinard picked up a win at the No. 3 doubles spot, winning 8-5 against Kristin Gyaki and Tara Goedjen.
The Huskers continued to dominate in singles play. Nebraska brought home wins in all spots except the No. 1 spot, where freshman Leslie Harvey dropped her third consecutive match to Noortje Cornelissen, 6-0, 4-1 (default). Senior Ndali Ijomah grabbed a win at the No. 3 spot, defeating Sabrina Evers, 6-3, 6-4. Frisch continued to over-power opponents as she picked up her 18th win of the season against Goedjen, 6-3, 6-4.
The Huskers are now 16-3 on the season. NU's next dual will be against No. 63 Colorado on Saturday in Ames, Iowa.
