Burrow Hired as Graduate Assistant Football Coach

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Head Football Coach Frank Solich announced today the hiring of Jimmy Burrow as a graduate assistant football coach for the Huskers. Burrow replaces Brian Washington, who left the position after one year to pursue private business interests. Burrow will assist with the defense and will work specifically with defensive backs coach George Darlington. Tim Albin enters his second year as Nebraska's other graduate assistant, working with the offense and tight ends.

Burrow is the father of current Huskers Jamie (senior Mike linebacker) and Dan (redshirt freshman free safety) and comes to Nebraska with a wealth of high school, collegiate and professional experience.

Most recently, Burrow has been employed since 1997 as a sales representative for T. Galaxy in Ames, Iowa, and has served as the head football coach at Ames High School since 1998, where he coached his son Dan. From 1995 to 2000, Burrow was the assistant head coach for the Iowa Barnstormers. His responsibilities included coaching the defensive backs, coordinating special teams and assisting the head coach in personnel decisions. From 1995 to 1998, he also served as an assistant coach at Ames High School, coaching the linebackers and his son Jamie.

No stranger to the Big 12, Burrow was an assistant coach for Iowa State University from 1987 to 1994, serving as defensive coordinator in 1994. He was also an assistant defensive backs coach for Washington State University from 1981 to 1986.

His playing career began at Nebraska in 1972, where he was a cornerback and safety, lettering in 1974 and 1975. He earned academic All-Big Eight honors in 1975 and helped lead Tom Osborne's Huskers to a Big Eight Championship his senior year. After playing in the Lions All-American Game in 1975, he was drafted by Green Bay in the eighth round and played six years of professional football, including five years in the CFL (1976 Green Bay Packers; 1977 to 1979 Montreal Alouettes; 1980 Calgary Stampeders; 1981 Ottawa Rough Riders).

He and his wife Robin have a four-year old son Joey.
