Huskers Take 23rd at NCAA Championships

Long Island, N.Y. - The Nebraska women's swimming and diving team placed 23rd at the 2001 Championships, making it their ninth consecutive top-25 finish.

The Huskers were led by sophomore Elvira Fischer, who earned the third All-America award of her career after placing fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:11.27. Freshman Rebecca Wolfe took home her first All-America award after placing seventh in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:59.78.

Freshman Jackie Lobdell finished her season on a strong note with a 18th and 25th place showing in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:32.96) and 200-yard backstroke (2:07.00), while Carmen Cosgrove finished 20th in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:07.58. Sophomore Keri Hehn had a 26th place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:17.43.

Senior All-American Beth Karaica ended her Husker career with a 19th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.11.

Georgia won its third consecutive title finishing just ahead of Stanford. The Bulldogs won the three-day event with a score of 389, while Stanford finished with a score of 387.5. Texas finished third with a score of 350.5. Nebraska, which stood in 29th place after day two, had a strong final day to finish in 23rd place with a score of 38.
