Huskers Win 13th Match of Season

Newport Beach, Calif. - The Nebraska women's tennis team picked up its 13th win of the season defeating Cal. State Northridge 6-3 in Newport Beach, Calif.

Nebraska took five of the six single matches, led by junior Katarina Balan who defeated Northridge's Gabriella Reiner, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Ndali Ijomah picked up her 11th win of the season defeating Shaheen Bhanji of Northridge, 6-2, 6-0 and Junior Amy Frisch continued her strong season earning her 14th win of the season defeating Rani Setawati in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6.

Freshman Elissa Kinard won her fourth straight match defeating Danice Shackelford 6-1, 6-4 while fellow freshman Rose Ketmayura defeated Marina Baydak, 6-3, 6-4. The only singles defeat was in the No. 1. spot where Tereza Simonyan defeated freshman Leslie Harvey, 7-5, 6-4.

In doubles action, Northridge took two of the three matches. At the No.1 spot the team of Simonyan/Reiner defeated Balan/Kinard, 8-6 while Setawati/Shackelford defeated the team of Harvey/Ketmayura, 9-8 at the No. 2 spot. The only victory for the Huskers came in the No. 3 doubles where the team of Ijomah/Frisch defeated Banji/Baydak, 8-6.
