3-0 Huskers Go 2-0 in Texas

Houston, Texas -- The Nebraska men's tennis team defeated Lamar and Texas-San Antonio Friday at Houston, Texas in back-to-back dual matches.

The Huskers defeated Lamar, 6-0 early Friday, and did not play doubles. Senior Jorge Abos Sanchez defeated Mebojsa Murisic, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, Lance Mills defeated Chris Chapman, 6-1, 6-4. Senior Kai Rieke defeated Christian Schoning, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot, while junior Fungai Tongoona defeated Thatcher Cribbs, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. At the No. 5 spot senior Ryan Haith defeated Hormace Tharakan, 6-3, 6-1, and freshman Patrick Kennedy defeated Randy Aschenbeck, 6-2, 6-2.

Later Friday, the Huskers defeated the Texas-San Antonio, 6-1.

The Huskers got out to an early lead defeating UTSA two out of three in doubles, then won all but one singles dual.

At doubles, senior Adnan Hadzialic teamed up with Tongoona to defeat Darmont and Macquet 8-1 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, Mills and Abos Sanchez defeated Douaeu and Dinster, 8-5, while Haith and Rieke defeated Veale and Stephen Pope, 8-3.

In singles, Sanchez defeated Tom Maquat, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot, Mills defeated Fred Darmont, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot, and at the No. 3 spot, Hadzialic defeated Brett Veale, 6-4, 6-2. At the No. 4 spot, Rieke defeated Max Douaeu, 6-0, 6-4. The Huskers' only singles loss came at the No. 5 spot, where Hdgar Dimeter defeated Tongoona, 6-4, 6-3. At the No. 6 spot, Haith defeated Justin Work 6-7, 7-6, (7-6).

Nebraska is now 3-0. Their next meet will be Saturday, Feb. 10 at Rice.
