Missouri Gets Past Huskers

Lincoln, Neb.-Nebraska raced to an early lead, but a second-half offensive explosion by red-hot Missouri, lifted the Tigers to an 84-78 win at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Huskers led by as many as 14 points in the first half and held a 37-24 halftime edge, behind 11 points and 10 rebounds in the first half from forward Steffon Bradford. Nebraska's lead again reached 14 points in the second half at 45-31 with 17:06 left, but from there Mizzou took over.

Missouri sliced Nebraska's lead to 47-43 with 13:39 remaining and pulled within a point at 51-50 on a Kareem Rush jumper with ten minutes left. Nebraska stretched the lead back to seven points a 62-55 with just more than seven minutes left, but the Tigers again responded. Missouri used an 8-1 run to tie the game at 63-all on a Keyon Dooling 3-pointer with 6:05 left. Nebraska went back ahead 64-63, but the Tigers' Clarence Gilbert answered with another 3-pointer that gave MU a 66-64 edge and Missouri did not trail again. Gilbert's 3-pointer was the first of three straight from long range that gave the Tigers a 72-66 lead with two minutes remaining.

The Tigers scored 60 second-half points, the most by an NU opponent in a half this season. Included in that total were nine 3-pointers, including three each by Dooling and Brian Grawer. Freshman Kareem Rush led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points off the bench, while Dooling added 19, with Grawer chipping in another 16. The victory was Missouri's seventh straight win as the Tigers improved to 14-6 overall and pulled into a first-place tie in the Big 12 at 7-1.

Nebraska was led offensively by center Kimani Ffriend who scored 20 points, all in the second half. Larry Florence added 17 points, while Bradford finished with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, for his eighth double-double of the season. The Huskers dropped to 10-11 overall and 3-5 in Big 12 action with the loss. Nebraska is next in action on Tuesday night, when the Huskers travel to Boulder, Colo., to take on the Buffaloes in an 8 p.m. (CST) game.
