Husker Men's Tennis Falls At Drake, 4-3

Des Moines, Iowa -- The Nebraska men's tennis team won three of the six singles matches but lost the doubles point, as the Huskers fell to Drake, 4-3, here Sunday at the Drake Tennis Center.

The Huskers (5-2) received solid performances from seniors Lance Mills and Jorge Abos Sanchez at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions, respectively, as each picked up his third victory of the weekend. Mills, playing at No. 1 singles for the second straight day and second time in his career, came from behind to take a 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-4 victory over Stephen Killian at the No. 1 slot, before Abos Sanchez, moving down to No. 2 singles for the second time this season, cruised past Drake's Anthony Perkins, 6-2, 6-2.

Nebraska lost its first singles match of the day at the No. 3 position, as Adnan Hadzialic fell to Tim Miller, 6-4, 6-4. The Bulldogs added their second and third victories in a row as NU's Kai Rieke, playing the No. 4 position, suffered his first loss of the season, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, at the hands of DU's Bryan Endress-Fox. Endress-Fox's brother,
Aaron, then defeated Nebraska's Fungai Tongoona, 7-6 (2), 6-1, at the No. 5 singles slot before the Huskers' Ryan Haith ended the streak with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kirk Schuler at the No. 6 position.

In doubles action, the tandem of Tongoona and Hadzialic dropped a tough, 8-6 decision at the No. 1 position to Drake's Killian and Miller while Rieke and Haith fell at No. 3 doubles, 8-5, to A. Endress-Fox and Schuler. Abos Sanchez and Mills, playing at the No. 2 doubles slot, picked up their fourth win of the season with an 8-4 victory over B. Endress-Fox and Felipe Montenegro for the Huskers' lone doubles win.

The NU men's tennis team will next be in action at home on Friday, Feb. 23, as the Huskers play host to Baylor at 12 p.m. at the Wood Tennis Center. Nebraska then leaves for matches against San Diego and San Diego State on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25, respectively, in San Diego, Calif.
